Chimborazo and La Doña Cerveceria; a Taste of Latin America

Pollo a la Parilla with Yellow Rice, Beans, Llapingacho, Avocado, Sweet Plantain and Curtido

Looking for some tasty rib filling, heart warming food you’ve likely never tried or knew you loved?  Look no further than Chimborazo at the corner of 29th Street & Central Avenue. Every hearty Minnesotan needs to try this NE Minneapolis gem serving Ecuadorian/Andean Highlands food!

We were told about this place years ago but never made a point to go. That all changed when our client Nikki C. wanted to meet us at her favorite restaurant for a bite to eat while we discussed her purchase agreement. Needless to say, we have since become frequent flyers.

We are by no means experts in Ecuadorian food, but each dish seems to be centered around a protein; chicken, chorizo, beef, egg or seafood, often stewed or marinated in a tasty sauce with peppers, onions or garlic paired with rice, beans or mote (Hominy). Sweet fried plantain is also a staple on the plate. Pair your meal with a nice Argentinian or Chilean wine and you feel like you’re on vacation. We’ve tried a few dishes, but can’t help repeating our order and have never been disappointed.

If you are like us, you will definitely see some things that aren’t familiar, don’t worry the waitstaff is very friendly and will be happy to help you out with what a llapingacho is (it’s a potato pancake by the
way). http://chimborazorestaurant.com/2019/

Want to follow up your Latin food experience with a little taste of Latin beer? Head over to La Doña Cerveceria in North Minneapolis. Just a block or two west of International Market Square near the corner of Glenwood Avenue & Fremont Avenue N. sits this feisty new brew pub. Open since 2016 this brewery offers an atmosphere and set of beer styles unmatched in any brewery we’ve been to in the Twin Cities (and we’ve been to a lot…). From their traditional Mexican Lager - Doña Fria to their more adventurous Smoked Chili Pepper IPA – Ifrit, you are sure to find something to please the palate. They serve an abundance of non-alcoholic drinks - refrescos and Micheladas, their version of a classic Mexican beverage with beer, fruit juice or tomato juice with a spicy lime and salt rimmed glass (picture at left). If you missed dinner, check out their in-house counter service tacos, burritos and quesadillas and more by Flagsmash! Like to dance? Don’t miss Salsa Night every Saturday night. They start out with a lesson and then let you Salsa the night away to a live DJ or band. You’ve got to check it out! https://dameladona.com/
